Each October, in conjunction with State Forest Awareness Month, Blackwater River State Forest along with the Munson Fire Department and Red Rock Masonic Lodge sponsors a two-day celebration and re-creation of old-time ways of life in the Deep South, in and around the Munson Community. This event provides educational and informational exhibits, living history demonstrations, bluegrass & gospel music.

Blackwater River State Forest
Forest and wildlife education displays are staffed by Foresters, Biologists, and Fish and Wildlife Technicians, providing information about the recreation activities and plants and animals, including endangered species, of Blackwater River State Forest. Live animals native to the area will be on display. Division of Forestry staff who provide services to private landowners will also be available to answer questions. The Friends of Florida State Forests and the Florida Trail Association will also be represented, along with other recreation user groups.

Old-Timey Ways and Activities
A partial list of the demonstrations includes cow milking; a sugar cane mill; cane syrup making; wood stove cooking; plowing with a mule; food preserving; whip making; quilting; chair caning; bee keeping; basket making; blacksmithing; moon shining; water-powered gristmill operation; corn shelling; a chicken house; antique gas engines cars, and farm equipment; meat smoking; thread spinning; tatting; sewing on old treadle sewing machines; Dutch oven cooking; animal trapping the old-time way; a Civil War re-enactment camp; Native American displays; wood carving; basket weaving; making corn-shuck dolls; dulcimer making; shoe cobbling; cross-cut sawing; old-time circular sawmill operation, turpentining, wood shingle making, clothes washing, displays by local museums, and old logging equipment.
Music
Award-winning musical groups will be featured throughout the continuous two-day performance of old-time early bluegrass and Southern gospel music, played on a rustic stage facing out over the lake.
Red Rock Masonic Lodge and
Munson Fire Department
The Red Rock Masonic Lodge and the Munson Volunteer Fire Department continue as partners in the Heritage Festival, and will open their doors to the public with a display of photographs, newspaper articles and other memorabilia of the time when Munson was the center of a thriving forest products industry. Other attractions will include a display of local taxidermy specimens and a Fish and Wildlife Commission Officer available to answer questions about hunting and fishing in the Blackwater Area.
