about Fire in Florida's Ecosystems

What: FIFE gives educators the information and tools to teach about wildland fire in Florida. Educators participate in a free 6 hour workshop and learn about fire in Florida's natural areas and the importance of prescribed burning as a land management tool. All participating educators receive a free set of curriculum materials including a curriculum notebook, 4 posters, 3 videos, and an interactive CD ROM, Burning Issues. The materials are designed for grades 3-12 and include FCAT-like study prompts and Sunshine State Standards correlations.

Who: FIFE is free for educators of all types: teachers, park staff, nature centers, camp counselors, park volunteers, Scout leaders, etc.

Why: To encourage a greater understanding of fire ecology and an acceptance of prescribed burning.

Where: Taught at schools, nature centers, parks, etc., throughout Florida.

When: Workshops are booked statewide throughout the year. Check the "Schedule of Trainings" page for information on upcoming workshops, OR schedule one of your own!
