What: FIFE gives educators the information and tools to teach about wildland fire in Florida. Educators participate in a free 6 hour workshop and learn about fire in Florida's natural areas and the importance of prescribed burning as a land management tool. All participating educators receive a free set of curriculum materials including a curriculum notebook, 4 posters, 3 videos, and an interactive CD ROM, Burning Issues. The materials are designed for grades 3-12 and include FCAT-like study prompts and Sunshine State Standards correlations. Who: FIFE is free for educators of all types: teachers, park staff, nature centers, camp counselors, park volunteers, Scout leaders, etc. Why: To encourage a greater understanding of fire ecology and an acceptance of prescribed burning. Where: Taught at schools, nature centers, parks, etc., throughout Florida. When: Workshops are booked statewide throughout the year. How Do I Get a Workshop In My Area?: If you are interested in hosting a workshop in your area, contact us at fire@pandionsystems.com or call toll free 1-888-372-4774 and ask for Pete Colverson or Christine Denny. We will come to your community and give a workshop free of charge. We will assist with marketing and registration for the workshop and ask for a minimum of 20 participants in order to run a class.
