Future Farmers of America Forestry Contests
Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapters membership
includes high school students. These FFA members can
participate in district Forestry contests held throughout
the state during September. Students compete in a variety
of forestry applications including map interpretation,
dendrology, orienteering, and timber measurement. Contact
your local school FFA Chapter. Winners of the twelve
district contests then compete at the State FFA Forestry
Contest held in Perry in mid October. The winner of
this contest will represent Florida in the Forestry
competition at the National FFA Convention.
In July of each year the Division of Forestry sponsors
a Forestry Training Camp for FFA high school students.
This six-day resident camp is held at O'Leno State
Park and students learn forestry skills. This is an
excellent opportunity for students to improve on forestry
applications and FFA teachers to learn more about teaching
forestry.
